Book AppointmentWho Vision Therapy For?
Vision therapy can help kids and adults with vision impairments due to poor visual processing. Early intervention can uncover undiagnosed eye conditions such as amblyopia (lazy eye) or strabismus (eye turn), which, if left untreated, can result in vision loss.
By nurturing visual skills, we can help patients develop visual abilities that impact daily life, including school, work, social activities, and sports.
Developmental Optometry
While regular eye exams are crucial, a developmental optometrist goes a step further. They focus on understanding how your child’s vision functions in everyday life, not just their ability to see clearly.
Developmental optometrists assess how well your child’s eyes work together, track objects, and perceive depth. These skills are essential for learning, reading, and participating in sports.
By taking a comprehensive approach that goes beyond basic visual acuity tests, developmental optometry empowers us to identify and address vision problems in children early on.
Who Is Developmental Optometry for?
While developmental optometry can be beneficial for everyone, it holds particular significance for children experiencing visual development challenges.
Conditions like strabismus (crossed eyes) and amblyopia (lazy eye) can significantly impact a child’s visual development. Early detection through a developmental optometry exam allows for prompt intervention and helps create improved long-term outcomes.
Undiagnosed vision problems often get misdiagnosed as ADHD. Developmental optometrists can assess visual function, potentially helping your child avoid unnecessary medications or treatments for ADHD when vision is the root cause of their challenges.
How Can Vision Therapy Benefit You?
Vision therapy provides personalized support for patients with diverse vision impairments resulting from underdeveloped visual skills.
Neuro-optometric rehabilitation focuses on enhancing vision affected by traumatic brain injuries, physical disabilities, or neurological diseases and conditions.
Vision therapy addresses a wide range of concerns, including:
- Amblyopia (lazy eye) & strabismus (eye turn)
- Convergence insufficiency (eye teaming)
- Learning-related vision disorders, including ADD/ADHD
- Dizziness & balance issues
- Eye focusing & tracking problems
- Eye strain caused by frequent computer use
- Sports enhancement needs
- Special needs vision challenges
Autism & Visual Perceptual Deficits
Vision is a crucial part of perceiving and learning about the world. However, many neurotypical children, like those with autism, can struggle with processing visual information, and their visual skills may not be fully developed.
Giving them personalized vision support can really help them improve their visual skills and how they process what they see.
